Flashback: How Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt got little Vivienne into her ‘Maleficent’ role

-

It’s a trip down memory lane as we reflect on a moment from 2014, when the world was treated to a family affair of Hollywood’s power couple, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, during the filming of Disney’s ‘Maleficent’. But did you know, amidst the dark enchantment of the tale, there was a sprinkle of parenting challenge and love?

Little Vivienne’s cinematic hesitation

One might imagine being the child of the illustrious Angelina Jolie and the dashing Brad Pitt, acting would be as innate as breathing. But little Vivienne Jolie-Pitt had her reservations. “The first day was the day she had to catch the butterfly, and she just really didn’t feel like doing it,” Angelina candidly shared about her daughter’s debut.

With an iconic role as the young Princess Aurora awaiting, Vivienne, then just 5, was quite the handful. It took some genuine parental creativity: Angelina dancing with poles, Brad making faces from a cliff’s edge, and a chorus of siblings cheering her on. “She eventually did it but she was taking her sweet time and not wanting to do it twice, certainly,” Jolie quipped with a chuckle.

Family bonds on and off-screen

In addition to Vivienne’s enchanting role, siblings Zahara and Pax made brief appearances, making ‘Maleficent’ a true Jolie-Pitt film fest. But Angelina emphasized a grounded approach to the glitz and glam. “I want them to do it for fun only… because I don’t think it’s a healthy focus as the center of your life,” she advised.

Revisiting this chapter from eight years ago, it’s clear that while the spotlights might gleam on these Hollywood A-listers, at the end of the day, they’re just parents trying to make the best memories with their little ones.
